aafe logoDr. Romay has completed advanced training and certification in the use of Botox® Cosmetic for treating common signs of aging as well as relaxing the masseter muscles to address the symptoms of TMJ. Dr. Romay understands the complexities of the musculoskeletal structure of the face and neck. She can incorporate her knowledge as both a dentist and someone trained in facial aesthetics for a natural-looking result.

Botox® Cosmetic can be used to treat a range of age-related lines and wrinkles on the face and neck areas. Dr. Romay will discuss your aesthetic goals and expected results prior to your treatment to be sure that Botox® Cosmetic injections are the right solution. We also offer dermal fillers for restoring volume, another cause of lines around the nose, eyes, and lips. Dr. Romay will recommend Botox® Cosmetic when treating:

  • Crows feet around the eyes
  • Glabella, the lines between the brows
  • Forehead lines
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Lines above and below the lips

One of the key benefits of receiving your Botox® Cosmetic treatments with Dr. Romay in our Glyndon dentist office is the ability to monitor your results during routine dental care visits. Your bi-annual dental visits are well-timed to refresh your results if needed.

Botox and TMJ

Botox® Cosmetic can asl be used successfully to relax the muscles of the jaw in patients who experience jaw pain and headaches due to a temporomandibular disorder. The tension created in the jaw muscles can cause radiating pain in the head and neck area. Botox® Cosmetic can be used to relax these muscles and reduce headaches and jaw discomfort. Dr. Romay also uses Botox® Cosmetic for treating myofascial pain with trigger point injections.

Botox for TMJ and trigger point injections can begin to provide relief in the first couple of days after treatment and results can last for 3-6 months for most patients. Combined with other relaxation techniques, they can help to reduce or eliminate pain associated with TMJ.

DENTAL BOTOX FAQS

How long does dental Botox last?

Dental Botox® loses its effect after about six months. After this time some patients may choose to have another Botox® procedure to maintain its effects.

What should I avoid after Botox?

After botox patients should avoid rubbing or touching their face, lying on the face, and extreme exercise. You may wash your face but do so very cautiously. It is best to give your body a resting period after botox injection. We also recommend that patients avoid sun exposure and alcohol for the first few days following their botox procedure.

How should I sleep after Botox?

Sleeping on your back is important after Botox injections because they need time to settle into your muscles. Laying on your face could prevent the injections from settling in and lead to unwanted results.

Can I drink coffee after Botox?

For 24-48 hours after Botox, avoid coffee, and caffeine. Caffeine consumption may contribute to increased swelling and discomfort. Once swelling has decreased you may drink coffee and caffeinated drinks as you please.

Can Botox improve your smile?

Injecting Botox between the lip and skin will relax the orbicularis muscle, resulting in smoother lips and a more attractive smile. In addition to eliminating lip wrinkles, Botox can also make lips appear bigger and more youthful.
