What are the benefits of dental crowns?

Dental crowns are a versatile treatment option that can hold together fractured teeth, brighten stained teeth, and strengthen weakened teeth. Crowns can also protect teeth following a root canal and cap off dental implants. Dr. Romay uses crowns. that are made of porcelain ceramic. Because of this, the dental crowns can match the shade of natural teeth.

Can I whiten my dental crowns?

No, crowns and other cosmetic or restorative treatments cannot be whitened. This is because they are made of porcelain ceramic or composite materials. However, dental crowns may be used to cover areas of yellowing, staining, or discoloration. Additionally, if you have an old dental crown, Dr. Romay may provide you with a replacement that blends in with your natural teeth for a seamless end result.

Is the dental crown procedure painful?

We use a local anesthetic to numb the teeth that require dental crowns. If we are adding multiple crowns, we may use dental sedation. Following their crown procedures, some patients will feel mild discomfort around their tooth crown or crowns. However, Dr. Romay will recommend pain medication and a soft diet for the most comfortable healing possible.
